The Kansas City Royals have traded Brandon Moss and left-hander Ryan Buchter to the Oakland Athletics for right-handers Jesse Hahn and Heath Fillmyer.
Moss is owed $8.25 million for 2018 and the Royals included $3.25 million in the deal to offset that.
The Royals could use the savings as they continue to attempt to re-sign Eric Hosmer.
The Miami Marlins continue their fire sale, trading Christian Yelich to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Yelich is the fourth starter to be traded by the Marlins as they reduce payroll and rebuild under new CEO Derek Jeter.
The Marlins acquired highly regarded outfielder Lewis Brinson, infielder Isan Diaz, outfielder Monte Harrison and right-handed pitcher Jordan Yamamoto. Brinson, Diaz and Harrison were rated among Milwaukee's top 10 prospects.
"There was a lot of stuff this offseason that was out of the norm," Yelich said. "For me it's almost more of a relief that it's over, and get back to playing baseball and doing what I love to do. ... I'm just excited for the fresh start."
Yelich will make $7 million this season in the third year of a $49.57 million, seven-year deal.
The Milwaukee Brewers are among the teams interested in dealing for Christian Yelich if he's the next member of the Miami Marlins sent packing.
The Brewers made an offer for the outfielder, according to a report. They are one of roughly 15 teams to show interest in Yelich.
Yelich turned 26 in December and is a .290/.369/.432 hitter in four-plus Major League seasons. He is locked into a contract that guarantees a reasonable $44.5 million for the next four seasons, with a $15 million club option for 2022.
The Toronto Blue Jays have acquired Randal Grichuk from the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for pitchers Dominic Leone and Conner Greene.
Grichuk expressed disappointment to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch that he was slated to be the fourth outfielder for the Cardinals earlier this week.
If the Miami Marlins trade Christian Yelich, they want a "huge return."
The Atlanta Braves have interest in Yelich, but the Marlins have been demanding top prospect Ronald Acuna.
"The Marlins told the Braves, 'Look, we'll do a three- or four- or five-for-one, but Ronald Acuna has to be in it or we don't go even to the second player,'" Peter Gammons said on MLB Network.
MLB.com currently has Acuna ranked as the No. 6 prospect in baseball.
Christian Yelich's relationship with the Miami Marlins is "irretrievably broken," according to his agent.
Agent Joe Longo believes it would be in the best interests of both the outfielder and the organization if the Marlins trade him before the start of spring training.
"They have a plan," Longo said of the Marlins. "I respect that plan, but that plan shouldn't include Christian at this point in his career. He's in the middle of the best years of his career, and having him be part of a 100-loss season is not really where [we] want to see him going.
"The relationship between player and team is irretrievably broken. It's soured. He's part of the old ownership regime. The new ownership regime needs to get new parts into this plan and move forward, and he needs to get on with his career where he's got a chance to win. The big issue is him winning and winning now.
"He loves the city of Miami. He loves the fans. He's had nothing but a good experience in South Florida, and he feels sorry where they ended up. But I think having him report [to spring training] and attempting to include him moving forward is going to be uncomfortable for both sides. I don't see how it's going to work."
Following the recent trades of Gerrit Cole and Andrew McCutchen, Josh Harrison says he'd prefer a trade from the Pittsburgh Pirates if they don't have plans to contend.
Harrison, who has spent his entire seven-year career with the Pirates, said in a statement released to The Athletic that "perhaps it would be better for all involved, that I also am traded."
"My passion for Pittsburgh, what it has MEANT to me, what it MEANS to me, can never be questioned," Harrison said in his statement. "I love this city, I love the fans, I love my teammates. Saying that, the GM is on record as saying, 'When we get back to postseason-caliber baseball, we would love our fans to come back out.' If indeed the team does not expect to contend this year or next, perhaps it would be better for all involved, that I also am traded. I want what is best for the organization that gave me a chance to be a Big Leaguer."
Harrison, 30, has one year remaining on a four-year deal he signed in 2015. He will make $10 million this season, and the Pirates also have club options on his contract -- worth $10.5 million and $11.5 million, respectively -- for 2019 and 2020.
The San Francisco Giants have agreed to acquire Andrew McCutchen from the Pittsburgh Pirates for pitcher Kyle Crick, minor league outfielder Bryan Reynolds and $500,000 in international bonus pool space.
Kyle Crick is believed to be one of two players going back to Pittsburgh. Top prospects Tyler Beede, Chris Shaw and Heliot Ramos appear not to be involved.
McCutchen has a slash of .291/.379/.487 for his career. McCutchen was the National League MVP in 2013.
The Giants previously had interest in trading for Giancarlo Stanton before dealing for Evan Longoria.
The New York Yankees were reportedly willing to include Clint Frazier in a package for Gerrit Cole earlier this offseason.
The Pittsburgh Pirates dealt Cole to the Houston Astros on Saturday for a four-player package, but they reportedly valued Frazier over everyone they received in the deal.
However, Houston's overall package was better.
